Hearing management is a specialized term for a range of services designed to address every aspect of an individual’s hearing health and its impact on their life. At HealthSense, we understand that in order to provide such comprehensive support for our clients’ hearing health, we need to spend time with them, understand their unique communication challenges, and see how their environment affects their daily interactions.

Our process begins with a thorough assessment, which covers a client’s:
Hearing health history and review of current audiology reports
Communication challenges in various settings (at home, in restaurants, on the phone)
Current hearing technology, including a review of hearing aids or assistive devices for effectiveness, proper use, and maintenance
Impact on mental and cognitive health, including screening for social isolation or frustration
Tinnitus and balance evaluation to identify related risk factors
Functional assessment of hearing-related safety in the home (e.g., ability to hear smoke alarms, doorbells, or phones)
Support, resources, and care systems available from family and the community
After we’ve completed our evaluation, we’ll develop a comprehensive Hearing Health Plan, which will recommend specific steps to optimize communication, promote safety and social engagement, and enhance overall quality of life. This care plan may include:
Specific recommendations for audiologist or Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist referrals
Unbiased guidance on the most appropriate hearing aids, cochlear implants, or other assistive listening devices (ALDs) based on lifestyle, budget, and technological needs
Personalized communication strategies for both the client and their family to improve interactions
Recommendations for home safety adaptations, such as visual alerting systems for smoke detectors or doorbells
Providing guidance on appropriate local and national resources, such as the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA)

We also can provide assistance in implementing and monitoring the Hearing Health Plan, which may include:
Accompanying clients to audiology and medical appointments to act as a "second set of ears" and advocate on their behalf.
Assisting in the hearing aid fitting process, including programming, adjustments, and learning to use new technology.
Ongoing re-evaluation of the Hearing Health Plan to ensure it is achieving its goals as needs change.
Coordinating and connecting the client with other resources, including aural rehabilitation programs, support groups, and tinnitus management specialists.
Acting as a liaison between the audiologist, primary care physician, and family to ensure a cohesive and unified approach to care.
Implementing and overseeing the use and maintenance of hearing devices and ALDs.
Providing crisis intervention in the case of sudden hearing changes or device failure.
